Laziest Gardener Ever.

Actually, I don't even think I can quite call myself a gardener yet... so anyway, after our super nice landlords offered to buy lumber for a raised garden in our tiny back yard, I decided we better get it done. So with the help of awesome, ever helpful parents, we (ah, and by me, I assume you all understand I mean the man with the muscles who's good at everything aka Don) got the wood, cut it, measured it, made little wooden dowels to hold it together (I was thrilled to have a no metal solution. I don't know why, I just had this thing with it being all 'natural' fibre...I know, I'm dumb.), got soil, brought it all to our tiny backyard, assembled, filled...done!

Then I was like, blah, let's plant later.

A week later, I realize if I wait any longer, we'll be having veggies in October. Oh no, wait, they'll all have died by then.

So, finally I planted stuff today. I tried to be all good about it. You know, making straight rows with a piece of twine, being very careful to read about each kind of seed and how to plant it and what to plant it with, blah, blah, blah. But, goodNESS, I'm lazier than I thought. By the last two rows, carrots and lettuce, I just made a row, sprinkled in the seeds, patted down a bit of soil and watered the crap out of it (dry soil).

I'm sure this will come back to haunt me at the weeding/thinning time. But I didn't care. It wasn't that hot out today, but in our no shade/no wind backyard, I was getting hot hot hot! And not the sexy kind either.

Anyway, after a little break in our ridiculously cold house (yes, it stays cold ALL the year with no A/C, which most consider good, but not me. I love heat. Although today, I must admit to it's lovely dark coolness....) I feel better about finishing up out there, but I think I'll save the raspberry bush planting and flower transplanting for tomorrow.

I was also too lazy to take a before picture, which Don would say is just one more reason to get an iphone, but I'm not that lazy to not hold on my anti-iphone stance, so this one from last year will have to suffice for pre-garden back yard. Take note of the empty space in the corner of the fence behind those day-lilies, or whatever they are.

And here are a couple of after pictures...I'm guessing they'll be more impressive in a couple of months...but I guess I'm pretty happy with them for now.

Well, I'm impressed AND jealous. Wish we had the space for a little veggie garden. Sigh.

Please hand me my tiara and sash because now that you have 'made solid effort' towards a veggie garden I will now take sole title of laziest gardner....we barely have grass...so so sad. I some times feel a pull towards wanting too but once I get a glimpes of the the weeding time invovled (all in my head of course, I fast forward to all the nasty and skip over the enjoyable) the bugs, the time invloved I just say "MEH" and happily carry on with my push mower over mounds of anthills and through the patchy grass, and done.
P.S. very impressed with the dowel work to keep the garden together. Bravo.

They look great! And you really have the perfect spot for them. One question, did you space them far enough apart to get the lawn mower between them? Ours are way to close together!
All of your hard work will be rewarded with all the fresh produce you'll be enjoying in the next few months! Gardening is great!
